The heavy shifts, inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), lack of societal acceptance, and mental health concerns are just some of the challenges faced by our contemporary nursing heroes. They greet patients every day with upbeat smiles and loving hearts, keeping their own concerns silent as they fight, serve, and care for future generations and the Filipino people, as well as the rest of the world, despite their own fears.
Nurses and all other health professionals have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak response, which has resulted in over 82 million infections and more than 1.8 million fatalities worldwide. They put their own lives at risk to protect those affected. Providing patient care during the pandemic has been challenging. Filipino nurses are finding it difficult to treat patients as other medical professionals fall ill with COVID-19 or leave a field already critically understaffed before the pandemic. Nevertheless, nurses ask for help and protection as they adjust to meet the evolving demands of the pandemic. Nurses are actively participating in COVID-19 activities and, with the right support, will continue to be essential participants in stopping the pandemic. As they strive to advance their profession, nurses inspire everyone with hope. They show how challenging yet rewarding nursing can be and should be treated with respect by continuing to work towards the betterment of society despite the pandemic's challenges. Let's stand with nurses as they guide us towards a new normal and imagine a better future. Any act of kindness, no matter how small, is never wasted. By being kind and understanding, we, as citizens, can contribute to the nurses' efforts to reorient and guide us to a better present and future.
